“Adderal Addiction vs. The Intelligent Decision: The Choice is Yours”

It has become commonplace for students on college campuses nationwide to seek out prescription amphetamines in order to study harder & longer. Yes, I am talking about Adderal & its sister drugs Concerta & Strattera. These drugs help you concentrate, stay on task, & increase your overall productiveness. By taking them, many can do in 4 hours what would normally take them 8 making you happy & the drug company very happy.

These drug companies spend billions on disseminating highly effective messages to you encouraging you to try their “miracle” drugs. Doctors give free samples like candy. In 2004, drug companies gave $16 billion worth of free samples to doctors. Many of these doctors diagnose patients w/ ADHD after only a single visit. An accurate diagnosis requires more than that. You need to study, they have a study drug, they give you a sample, and you purchase a prescription. Ironically, the process is eerily similar to a high profile drug operation; and that’s just what it is.

Choosing to take any of these prescription medications should be made from an informed position & they should not be abused. Misuse of any of them carries severe health risks. Unfortunately, the reality of the situation is much different. A very high percentage of students taking these drugs either 1) do not have ADHD or, 2) display only mild symptoms of the disorder that can be easily treated without their use.

Big drug companies don’t want you to know that, for many of you, generic drugs like Dextroamphetamine & Methylphenidate are equally effective while being much safer & less expensive. Make the intelligent decision. Consult your campus health center, identify the signs & symptoms, & choose what will be the best option for you
